Chapter Home | History | Past Master Councilors Welcome DeMolay is an organization dedicated to preparing young men to lead successful, happy, and productive lives. Basing its approach on timeless principles and practical, hands-on experience, DeMolay opens doors for young men aged 12 to 21 by developing the civic awareness, personal responsibility and leadership skills so vitally needed in society today. DeMolay combines this serious mission with a fun approach that builds important bonds of friendship among members in more than 1,000 chapters worldwide. The Order of DeMolay was founded by in 1919 by Frank S. Land, who had been asked by a fellow Masonic lodge member to offer assistance to a young man whose father had passed away. This substitute "Dad" relationship evolved into a small group of young men who became interested in forming a club that would meet at the Masonic Temple. The name and character of the Order were selected by the club based on Jacques DeMolay, the last leader of the Knights Templar, whose story was one of heroism, fidelity, courage, loyalty and toleration. Lakewood Chapter traced its own roots back to 1926 and was chartered under the authority of DeMolay International. Lakewood Chapter went into dormancy in 2013 and ceased operations in 2015. Membership in DeMolay is open to young men aged 12 to 21. For information on DeMolay membership elsewhere in Northeast Ohio, please contact the Second District Governor. Lakewood DeMolay acknowledges authority and yields allegiance to DeMolay International of which Frank S. Land was Founder. |
